Inscriptions Typed in black ink on paper taped to verso and folded to recto BC: FIGURES FOR A FAIR -- Designer-sculpture Joseph Barth III works on one of his less \ controversial creations for the New Orleans World's Fair, opening May 12 -- a fancifal \ catfish that along with other creatures such as the huge pelican in the background, \ will adorn the exposition's main entrance gate. In the meantime, and anotomical battle \ is raging in New Orleans with fair officials defending the gate's central figures, a pair \ of topless 30-foot-high mermaids now taking shape in Barth's studio. Critics want a \ coverup. The sculptor says, "If they're upset about the upper torso, wait until they \ see the rest!" \ -0- \ From: John A.
