Entry 130 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Exquisite large daguerreotype in lovely old papier maché case with basket of roses and other flowers inlaid in mother-of-pearl in center. Border of vari-colored grapes all made of pearl. Case has 2 hasps or locks and is beautifully gilded and lined. The metal mat, usually of brass, is gold. Daguerreotype of fairly young clean-shaven man, with thin face and high cheek bones. Long wavy hair. Photo is so clear that even small veins in temples are noticeable. It is seldom possible to find these large 8x10 in. cases with fine daguerreotypes. Rare and valuable addition to a collection. (5.00)
