Inscriptions Entry 478 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Solid gold brooch with nice daguerreotype of unknown young man. Daguerreotype can be removed out of front brooch just like a daguerreotype in leather case, [crossed out] (3.50) and gold brooch is brilliant, clear, and untarnished inside, and not filled out with plaster-of-paris, as is the case with some early gold pins.
