DescriptionPortfolio style album, contains varieties of albumen photographs, both commercial and amateur images mounted on both sides of pages which were probably cut from the brown leather-bound cover which encloses them. All of the images are identified with pencil inscriptions and the collection appears to have been made and assembled by a British military man stationed at Point Levis across the St. Lawrence River from the city of Quebec. Some of the images may document the activities of the Canadian Royal Engineers (R.E.). Included are commercial views (some half stereos) of Canadian cities of Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, and Niagara Falls, made by Alexander Henderson and William Notman, and a series of views made in Bermuda, including 2 panoramas of St. George area. There are also many amateur views made in and around Point Levis. These document the camp life and activities of a group of British military, including the 78th Highlanders. Additional images are related to military training in Aldershot, England. Of note are a series of 3 images of Table Rock, of the Roebling Bridge (#87) and Terapin Tower (#133) at Niagara Falls, and another of the photography booth there (Platt D. Babbitt's?) at Point View (#135). There are also several group portraits, including the officers at a fancy dress ball (#41) and of a Cricket team (#122). Album is in good condition.
