U.S. NAVY CROSSES THE RHINE!/

For the first time in history, the U.S.Navy participates in a European/ continental river crossing as American bluejackets, garbed in Army khaki/ for the occasion, man landing craft which transported soldiers across the/ Rhine on March 24, 1945. Behind the master amphibious stroke were long/ hours of planning and preparation. Taken during the preliminary operations,/ these are the first of a series of photographs of the Navy's "Drang Nach Osten."/

LCVP's (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) roll up the narrow streets of a/ Belgian village en route to the Rhine./
