Inscriptions Typed in black ink on applied label, verso C: (Montevideo) 7/61 7) RED CHINESE UNION ORGANIZER, \ leader of the first three-man political team from mainland \ China permitted to work in Latin America, talks to the \ press in Montevideo under a traditional painting of freedom- \ loving Simon Bolivar. Arrival of the three Chinese political \ workers who landed in Montevideo in May aboard a Cuban plane, \ created a furor, for they openly admitted that they had come \ to aid in organizing a Communist trade federation. The \ anti-Communist press called it a brazen and ominous precedent, \ and President Haedo's governemtn tried to deport them, but \ had to back down in the face of heavy pressure from the huge \ (75-man) Soviet Embassy and from Uruguayan Communists. \ Credit: Andrew St. George © 1961 MAGNUM PHOTOS
