The extinct \ volcano, shown here at sunrise, is 14,408 feet \ (4,392 meters) high and it rises 8,000 feet \ (2,400 meters) above the alpine meadows pic- \ tured here. Alpine firs and whitebark pines \ are the timberline trees in the picture.
