Inscriptions Printed on applied label on recto of mat, BC: John & Fernando \ We've now been Buddies for four and a half years. I still visit Fernando every week, but I'll tell you, \ it's not the same when the person is well. Sometimes I think I am trapped by the fact that the only \ way for me to get what I want out of this is for Fernando to die, and in reality, I don't want that to \ happen. I've been doing this for so long, I think I'll just stay with it to the end to see how it comes \ out. The experience is teaching me patience. It's certainly not teaching me the things I thought I \ would be learning, but maybe that's part of the lesson. John, 1993
