Inscriptions Entry 418 in Mackay's notebook (located in library): Fine unusual daguerreotype of Prince Paul of Württemberg, Germany. Taken by Peter Britt in 1848 in Highland., Illinois. Shows Prince seated, dressed in velvet jacket and jumper, holding very lovely painting of rural scene, showing man on elevation above, river, with 2 cows grazing. Painting may have been work of Peter Britt who was very talented artist. Prince wanted for him to go Munich to study. Instead he came to America & became enthused with new photographic art and became pioneer Oregon photographer in 1852, after first settling in Illinois. This rare daguerreotype belongs to Britt Museum, Jacksonville, Oregon. Gift of Mollie & Emil Britt. Sept 2, 1941.
